Overview
The Zebra DS8178 is the cordless model of the DS8100 Series, built for busy retail checkouts and service counters that want premium scanning without a cable. It reads 1D, 2D and Digimarc barcodes on paper and screens. The DS8178-HC is the healthcare version. Zebra lists the newer DS8288 as its successor.
Two interchangeable power options can be swapped on site: a 2,500 mAh PowerPrecision+ battery (about 65,000 scans) or a PowerCap capacitor that charges in 30 minutes. It uses a 1280 x 960 sensor, Bluetooth 4.0 with up to 100 m range, and is rated IP52 with 1.8 m drop and 2,000-tumble specifications.
